Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest for the Youth of our Parishes

Brothers Ed Giard and Art Querido are leading the first "Keep Christ in Christmas" project for our Council this Christmas season.  The contest is for three different age groups and open to youth of both parishes, with a first prize of a $50 gift card to the winner in each group.  The objective is to promote the true spirit of Christmas with our youth, and returns that have come in suggest that this spirit is alive and well with this group!  Winners will be selected in early January; you can see all of the entrants' posters at our two parishes until then!

           Volunteer Hours Needed!

Every year our national organization asks for an accounting of the volunteer time we spend in all of our various charitable activities, whether through our Council or not.  The time is upon us to provide an estimate of that time.  Our Financial Secretary has sent out a short form to compile the time on.  If you haven't yet sent this back to him, NOW IS THE TIME TO DO THIS!  Please complete this form and send it back to Brother Kevin Paradis by the time of our next Council meeting on January 14, 2015.

Council 5779 day long retreat to The National Shrine of the Divine Mercy

(KP Stockbridge) Members of The Knights of Columbus Council 5779 and parishes around South Windsor went on a Day of retreat. The Day was spent at The National Shrine of The Divine Mercy at Eden Hill in Stockbridge Massachusetts.

We began our trip to Stockbridge Massachusetts from the parking lot of St. Fancis of Assisi Church at 8:00 AM. We piled into every seat in the luxury car of the worthy Grand Knight. Deputy Grand Knight Joe Alubicki.handed out life savers (Wintergreen, my personal favorite). We made one Stop at St Phillps in East Windsor to pick up a 92 year old parrishner  of St. Catherine's.

The traffic was very light through Springfield and all along the Massachusetts Turnpike. We made good time to Stockbridge and arrived about 9:15 AM. Welcomed to the Shrine by the outstretched arms of a bronze statute of Blessed John Paul The Great we entered the building to sign in for the conference.

Finally, Coffee, The Staff at the Shrine put out the coffee. with my second cup in hand the talk began promptly at 9:30 AM. Father Seraphim Michalenko was scheduled to give two talks in the morning session, he did so wonderfully.

Life size Stations of the Cross

The detail is inspiring!

Statue of Blessed John Paul II greeted us as we arrived and inspired us as we began our trip back home to Connecticut.
